In today’s busy world, time is precious, and accuracy is essential. Our watches reflect this value, with traditional designs emphasising the long minute hand for precise readings, even at the cost of hourly obscuring of the hour hand. But it wasn’t always this way—one-hand watches were once the norm, tracking time to the nearest hour before precision improved in the 17th century.
Today, one-hand watches still find a place often on 24-hour timepieces, capturing the flow of the day in “real time.” These minimalist designs offer simplicity but lack minute-level precision (usually the usable timescale is about 15 minutes).
The Merivian Pure redefines this approach, blending clarity and accuracy for the best of both worlds. This innovation became possible when we realised that it is much easier to see rotation of a small hand than progress at the tip of a long hand. So instead of a long minute hand overshadowing the hour hand, the Merivian Pure uses a unique minute cap with a small arrow. This allows precise readings up to two minutes without obscuring the hour hand. At a glance, the hour hand shows your progress through the day, while the minute cap provides detailed accuracy up close.
This is one of the many breakthroughs necessary to create the world’s first Circadian Chronograph. A watch that shows time in relation to your wake-sleep rhythm. By redefining time to focus on hourly progress, the Merivian Pure encourages a mindful approach to daily life—helping you see time differently and live more intentionally.
Merivian is available in a Pure Edition with our small minute hand and in Original Edition with a regular minute hand. Click the image below to see them in action side by side.
