The wristwatch market is booming! Smartwatches made wearing timepiece on your wrist trendy again. With predictions of nearly 180 million smartwatches shipping in 2024. We just can’t stop thinking about environmental implications of that number alone. Think about the massive waste from all that shipping and packaging!
At Merivian, we’re flipping the script. Just like we got creative with our wine box shipping, we’re also innovating with our packaging materials.
Nature’s Packaging
We’re all about those eco-friendly materials. Take our wrapping paper, made from Vibers Elephant grass. Not only does it look sleek, but it also gobbles up 30 tons of CO2 per hectare yearly and is ready to roll right after harvest.
Then there’s the star of our show: the Mycelium insert. Mycelium, the underground hero (it’s the root system of fungi), is a champ at being sustainable. It’s 100% biodegradable, breaking down in your garden without a trace—unless, of course, you want to keep it. If you choose to hold onto it, this box won’t just crumble away; it stays classy till you decide otherwise.
From Homegrown to High-Tech
Big shoutout to companies like Grown.bio, crafting beautiful mycelium pieces at scale. While they’re the pros, we’ve started our journey by growing these beauties right in Michel’s kitchen! Yes, you heard that right—our first 50 watch boxes were born in vacuum-shaped molds in Michel’s oven. It’s a labor of love, and we’re dreaming of the day we can team up with the big guys for larger batches. But for now, we’re happily baking our way to a greener world.
Stay tuned as we continue our eco-journey, one watch box at a time!
